Bangladesh wins gold, two bronze medals at international climate olympiad in Russia

Bangladesh has secured a gold medal, two bronze medals and a merit recognition at the International Olympiad on Climate Change and Environmental Issues (IOCE 2026), held in the Sirius Federal Territory in Sochi, Russia.

Abu Mahzoorah Ayman led the Bangladesh team’s performance, winning the gold medal after scoring 100 out of 100 and finishing first worldwide in the competition.

Two other members of the team, SM Anfal Habib and Fabiha Nurjina, received bronze medals, while Ismah Aroush earned a Merit Certificate, or honorable mention.

The results marked a notable international achievement for the Bangladeshi participants, who competed in a programme focused on climate change, environmental science and related scientific challenges.

Ahead of the international event, the students underwent months of preparation that included intensive workshops in Dhaka. Their activities later expanded to fieldwork and laboratory-based exercises before they took part in the final competition in Sochi.

Organizers said the students’ performance reflected their sustained preparation, scientific interest and commitment to environmental issues.

The Bangladesh Olympiad on Climate Change and Environmental Issues (BOCE), which was involved in preparing and supporting the participants, also played a role in the team’s journey to the international stage.

The achievement highlights the growing participation of Bangladeshi students in international science and environmental competitions, particularly in areas linked to climate change and sustainability.

Those involved with the programme congratulated the members of Team Bangladesh and thanked the individuals and organizations that supported their preparation and participation.
